The countryside around Stockholm has many interesting places to visit. After a short drive you find yourself in a rural setting, dotted with lovely monuments such as the Drottningholm Palace where the Swedish king currently resides. And a bit further is the quaint village of Sigtuna, and the historic city of Uppsala.
Uppsala is home to one of Sweden’s oldest universities and was the home of the famous 18th century botanist Carl Linnaeus. You can view there a precious silver-bound Bible written in the Gothic language. Uppsala was once a religious center for the ancient Vikings.
Sigtuna is the most ancient village near Stockholm, founded in the last 10th century. It will give you an idea of what Swedish towns were like in the 17th century.
